Some impressions during the NASA SARI LCLUC science meeting.

I had the opportunity to present a poster at the international science meeting of the land cover / land use change (LCLUC) programme of NASA’s South/Southeast Asia Regional Initiative, held in Johor Bahru, Malaysia from 22nd to 24th of July 2019. My poster presentation was about our study on investigating land-cover regime shifts by integrating complementary analytical frameworks in the Tanintharyi Region, southern Myanmar, which was published earlier this year in a special issue of Sustainability journal (full paper here).

MOTIVATE Learning.

I am stoked to be one of the invited lecturers/visiting experts for next week’s MOTIVATE Learning activity, a collaborative project organised by the International Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing Student Consortium (ISPRS SC), the Geoinformatics and Space Technology Development Agency (GISTDA) of Thailand, and the ASEAN Research and Training Center for Space Technology and Applications (ARTSA), which will be held at the Space Krenovation Park in Chonburi, Thailand. MOTIVATE Learning aims to build the capacity of students and young professionals in the fields of remote sensing, photogrammetry, and spatial information sciences.

ESA LPS16.

Last week, I received news that our abstract was accepted for oral presentation at the Living Planet Symposium 2016 (LPS16), based on the scientific committee reviews. Our paper entitled, Identifying priority high conservation value areas using earth observation data to support site-level interventions in Northern Sierra Madre Natural Park, Philippines, is scheduled for presentation on Day 3 as part of the series of biodiversity sessions. I am not sure whether there are other presentations from the Philippines in this upcoming symposium, or if others have been made in the past symposia.

S.T.A.R.T. 3.

I was invited to speak at the technical colloquium entitled, Spatial Technologies for Advancing Research Techniques, hosted by the Department of Geography of the University of the Philippines last night. The small gathering was attended by the faculty, alumni, and students from the host department, as well as undergraduate students from Miriam College. On behalf of our entire team, Karen, Sheryl, and myself shared about our work on utilising geospatial technologies in support of conserving wildlife and their habitats through our various projects at Fauna & Flora International Philippines over the last five years.
